Passing the Torch: Raising Awareness about Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer
Scheduled for October 1 at Jamaica Pond

(Boston- September 14, 2005) - FORCE (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered), a national organization for families affected by hereditary breast and ovarian cancer is launching a new signature event in Boston on Saturday evening, October 1st. The first ever Passing the Torch: Raising Awareness about Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer will begin at 6pm at Jamaica Pond in Boston.

The two-hour event will honor breast and ovarian cancer survivors and remember those who have succumbed to the disease. Keynote speaker, Dr. Judy Garber will talk about the link between breast and ovarian cancer, which will be followed by a ceremonial "passing of the torch" from an ovarian cancer survivor to a breast cancer survivor. The evening will culminate in a short ceremonial walk around Jamaica Pond, led by the torch-bearers.

"Very few people know that September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, while so many know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month" said Sue Friedman, FORCE Executive Director. "Our event is an opportunity to highlight the link between these cancers during the transition between the two awareness months."
